Quantitative Research
Tests hypotheses using numerical data. Appropriate for large samples, generalizable findings, and "how much" or "is there a difference" questions.
Qualitative Research
Explores meaning and context using non-numerical data. Best for "how" and "why" questions about phenomena not yet well understood.
Mixed Methods
Integrates quantitative and qualitative approaches. Common designs: sequential explanatory (quantitative first) and convergent parallel (both simultaneously).
Justifying Your Methodology
The methods chapter must justify — not just describe — your choices. Connect your epistemological position (positivism, interpretivism, pragmatism) to your methods. Examiners will probe these foundations.
Boss Statistics Methodology Support
We help researchers select, justify, and implement methodologies — and provide statistical support throughout.
