Before You Write: Plan the Paper
Strong papers begin with rigorous planning. Identify your research question, target audience, and the journal you are writing for before drafting a single word.
The IMRAD Framework
- Introduction: Why was this study needed? What gap does it fill?
- Methods: What was done, and how could it be replicated?
- Results: What was found? (Data only — no interpretation here.)
- Discussion: What do the findings mean? How do they compare with the literature?
Statistical Reporting Essentials
Report exact p-values (p=.032, not "p<0.05"). Always include effect sizes. Present means ± SD in the text; use tables only for complex comparative data.
